Something about the hum of the hotel air conditioner makes me think about summer vacations at roadside motels, falling asleep sunburned and happily stuffed from fried shrimp for dinner.

Electronic card keys are efficient and probably cost-effective and safer but I miss the old-school hotel keys with the clunky plastic key tags.

My grandad had a tree swing in their yard for us grandchildren. We all loved it; it was pretty much the only thing that would make me put down the Nancy Drew book and go outside.

We made homemade ice cream in the summer.

The fact that we could make ice cream seemed like magic. It happened outside (something else different from any other food-making) and involved breaking up bags of ice on the sidewalk. That part was such fun.
